Located near the N shore of Lough Atedaun. This crannog—and a second one (CL017-118----), at the opposite end of the lake, c. 670m to the SW —were discovered by Fr. Thomas MacNamara in the summer of 1972, a very dry period when the lake level was exceptionally low. The finding was reported to Prof. Etienne Rynne of University College, Galway, who observed the site from the lakeshore in October 1972. Rynne (1981, 93) described the crannog as a ‘small conical pile of stones rising above the surface of the lake.’ Local sources who visited the crannog c. 1945-50 described four large wooden stakes near its centre, set in a square-like arrangement, and said that animal bones were also found at the crannog (ibid.).
