What is recorded here

On the summit of a hill in pasture with spectacular views to the S and SW. Hachured on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). This rath, originally circular in plan, is now D-shaped as a result of the construction of a field boundary, which runs across it from NW to NE; no surface trace of it is visible to the N of the boundary. It is defined by a central platform ( 23.1m N-S; 19.5m N-S; av. H 0.25m), a very overgrown intervening fosse (base Wth 3m; av. Wth at top 5m) and an outer bank (av. Wth 3m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.2m). A causewayed entrance gap (Wth 4m) is visible at E and a number of cattle gaps are also visible. The interior slopes to the S and is overgrown with nettles, rushes and reeds.
