What is recorded here

Near the top of a prominent rise in hilly marshy pasture and to the S of the Ennistimon to Corrofin road. A short curving arc of hachures is shown on the 1916 ed. of the OS 6-inch map in a field across the road from a medieval church (CL016-105001-) and its associated graveyard (CL016-105002-). On inspection in May 1999, no visible surface trace of it was noted as the field had been levelled and drained. Current aerial imagery (OSi ditigalglobe 2011-2013) shows a curving depression (c. 30m to the S of the road) crossing two fields. It may mirror the outline of an enclosure or, alternatively, a boreen. Another curving line visible to N of the graveyard may be a continuation of that to the S, if that is the case the enclosure would have an overall dimension of 120m E-W and c. 90m N-S, suggesting that it could be an ecclesiastical enclosure. A holy well (CL016-105003-) lies c. 127m to the W. The following image has been uploaded: CL016-105004-_01.jpg Aerial view looking S.
