Kiltonaghty Church (in ruins) — Clogher (corcomroe By.)

On top of a prominent hill, named Island Hill on the OS maps, in generally undulating poor pastureland with panoramic views. Indicated and named Kiltonaghty Church (in ruins)’ on the 1840 edition of the OS 6-inch map; by the time of the 1916 ed. it was annotated ‘Site of’. Described as ‘the site of an old Church and burying ground called Cill-Tonachta’ by O’ Donovan (Comber 1997, 90). Named ‘Kiltonaghta’ by Westropp (1900, 137) who noted it was ‘levelled since 1839’. This church is roughly centrally located within a graveyard (CL016-024003-), which is surrounded by an ecclesiastical enclosure (CL016-024001-). All that survives of it is a grass-covered section of the S wall (L 12-14m; Wth 1m; H 0.5m) and the return of the E wall (L 3m). A number of architectural fragments and dressed stone noted within the graveyard (Large 2010, 152-4) are probably be from it.
