Cloth Mills — Caheraderry

Within a complex of vernacular buildings including a dwelling, and two out-houses, situated in low marshy pasture surrounded by trees at the confluence of the Caheraderry River and the Dealagh River, on the W bank of the latter, c. 120m SW of Derry Bridge. Depicted and labelled ‘Cloth Mills’ on the 1840 OS 6-inch map. Depicted and labelled ‘Derry Mills (Corn)’ on the 1916 OS 6-inch map. The Down Survey barony map of Corcomroe (1655-8) shows a water mill on the E side of the river in Ballingaddy townland close to the site. A water mill comprising a rectangular two-storey S-facing stone building (6.05m E-W; 5.46m N-S) with a slate roof and three two-over-two sash windows in the façade. The rotten remains of a water wheel survive as does the millrace and sluice gate. In use as an outhouse.
