What is recorded here

On a gentle SW-facing slope in undulating pastureland. Indicated as a suboval/circular tree-lined area and named ‘Grave Yard for Children’ on the 1842 and 1920 eds. of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘Burial ground’ in the RMP. This slightly damaged children’s burial ground survives as a slight oval-shaped overgrown mound (max. H 1m; dims. of base 18.5m WNW-ESE; 14m NNE-SSW). Several stones on the surface of the mound could be gravestones or simply fieldstones; none appear to be set in the ground but overgrowth inhibits visibility. There is a subcircular hollow (diam. c. 4m; D c. 0.5m) at the W end resulting from digging activity. Compiled by: Mary Tunney and Conn Herriott Date of upload: 23 January 2023
