What is recorded here

Listed as Fulacht fia (possible) in the SMR (1992) but unlocated and not listed in the RMP (1996). The SMR listing is based on a Coffey reference (1985, 29) that in the valley beneath Cahercommaun (CL010-064003-) about 150m from the cliff base is “a small fulacht fiadh” close to a spring. A second was destroyed by road building nearby.” This is one of a number of fulachta fia mentioned but which were not located during an inspection of the area in 1999. This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
