Correen R.C. Chapel (in ruins) — Poulnalour

Situated in the N centre of an ecclesiastical enclosure (CL010-108001-), in the W part of a graveyard (CL010-108003-). Drawn as a rectangular structure and named as ‘Correen R.C. Chapel (in ruins)’ on the 1842 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and as ‘Templepatrick (in ruins)’ on the 1897 OS 25-inch plan and the 1920 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. This very poorly preserved and overgrown rectangular church (est. 10-13m E-W; 5.65m N-S) is defined by a stone wall (Wth 0.8-0.85m; int. H 0.25-0.3m; ext. H 0.25-0.98m) with cyclopean masonry in the W outer wall-face. A large stone (ext. H 1.7m) is set vertically near the centre of the N wall. There is a vertically set quoinstone (H 0.72m) in the SW corner. A poorly defined gap (Wth 1.3m) near the W end of the S wall is probably the remains of a doorway. There is a holed stone (CL010-108005-) in the SW part of the graveyard (CL010-108003-), and (according to historic OS maps and other sources) the site of a possible leper hospital (CL010-108004-) c. 20m to the ESE of the church.
