At the base of a low, steep S-facing rock-face overlooking an area of low-lying damp ground in hazel and rough pasture. Indicated on Robinson’s (1977) map, with a mass rock (CL010-100003-) marked a short distance to the E. There are two enclosures (CL010-100001- and CL010-100002-) marked to the S of the cave, labelled ‘Carrachantaggart’ on the 1897 OS 25-inch plan and the 1920 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and ‘Cathracha an tSagairt’ on Robinson’s (1977) map. The name may refer to the mass rock marked on Robinson’s (1977) map or to this cave.
On a field inspection in 1999 the cave was noted as well defined (min. L 12.4m). From its mouth (H 0.7m) it ran NW initially (L 5.4m; av. Wth 1.4m; H 1.3m), to a natural stone ledge (H 0.3m). From here the cave continued for at least another 7m, but became considerably narrower and was not accessed beyond this point. Marion Dowd (pers. comm., 2014) observed some modifications in the form of aa stone wall and paving inside the cave and gave an overall length of 31m.
