Indicated — Fanygalvan

Within the W end of a low elongated mound (c. 20.5m ENE-WSW; c. 4.8-8.5m NNW-SSE; H c. 0.5-0.8m) associated with a wedge tomb (CL009-084007-) that lies c. 5m to the NE; an unclassified megalithic tomb also lies c. 2.5m to the NE. Indicated on the 1842 and 1920 eds. of the OS 6-inch map and labelled ‘Cromlechs’ on the latter ed. Described by de Valera and Ó Nualláin (1961, 28-9) as the remains of a possible long cist (est. 1.85m ENE-WSW; D 0.25-0.5m). It is located within a roughly wedge-shaped hollow (2.6m ENE-WSW; 1.2m NNW-SSE at W, narrowing to 0.8m at E) and is defined by two prostrate slabs (S slab: L 1.3m; Wth 0.3m; T 0.12m; N slab: L 1.85m; Wth 0.5m; T 0.1m). A partly concealed set stone (L 1.1m; H 0.15m; T 0.1-0.15m) is visible under the N slab. The function of another set stone (L 0.6m; H 0.2m; T 0.1m) to the W of the hollow could not be determined. The mound around the wedge tomb narrows to the E of this structure and the unclassified megalithic tomb. This suggested to de Valera and Ó Nualláin (ibid.) that they and the W part of the mound were added to the original mound that surrounded the wedge tomb. On inspection in October 1998 the monument was as described above. These tombs form part of a concentration of prehistoric monuments in the immediate vicinity, some of which investigated by Grant (1995, 31-3). The closest of monuments in this complex include: a stone row (CL009-084006-), which lies c. 20m to the NW and a standing stone (CL009-084032-), which lies c. 19m to the NNE.
