On a plateau, in pasture within a large multiperiod field system (CL009-059001-), and c. 8m outside the SE side of Caherwalsh cashel (CL009-059045-). Named ‘Carn’ on the 1916 OS 6-inch map. Westropp (1900-02, 426) mentions ‘a carn and hut-sites’ (CL009-059044-) near Caherwalsh. A grass-covered oval cairn (9m N-S; 6.2m E-W; H 0.4-0.6m) with a flat top (diam. c. 2-2.7m). A large stone (L 1.85m; Wth 0.6; T 0.2m; H 0.6m) aligned N-S protrudes from near the W edge of the cairn and may be naturally placed. The cairn may represent field clearance, accumulating around this stone. A small enclosure (CL009-059124-) abutting the external cashel wall overlies and partly obscures the N side of the cairn.
