Megalithic tomb in Kilcorney

On a gentle S-facing slope of a plateau, within a multiperiod field system (CL009-021001-), with good views from NE to SW. This monument appears to be the remains of a very poorly preserved unclassified megalithic tomb. A possible chamber is defined by two upright slabs on its N side with two prostrate slabs to the S. The chamber is aligned NE-SW. It occupies the NE end of an associated cairn (11.3m NE-SW; 7.4m NW-SE) that was probably originally circular or oval-shaped in plan. The cairn survives from S to W to N but there is little or no trace of it from N to E, and particularly so from E to S. It is retained by a distinctive double kerb (Wth 1.2m; H 0.8-0.9m). The inner kerb is partly defined by very large kerbstones (H 1.2-1.4m) set upright and rising above general height of the kerb itself. On the outer kerb, horizontally laid stones, two courses high, are visible at SW. Some of the cairn material has spilled outside the kerb. A possible cist (CL009-0021059-) is visible to the S of the chamber and to its SW there is a possible stone circle (CL009-021060-). Both of these features suggest that the megalithic tomb was subsequently reused.
