On level ground at the middle and narrowest point of the valley at the E foot of Gortaclare Mountain, with the W side of the valley rising up immediately to W. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). Hachured on the 1915 ed. of the OS 6-inch maps.
A poorly preserved subcircular cashel (int. dims 14.3m N–S; 17.6m E–W) defined by low double-faced drystone walling (Wth 1–2.1m), with inner and outer facing-stones (exposed H 0.1–0.6m) traceable for nearly the full circuit of the enclosing element except at E where only outer facing-stones survive. The base of the facing is obscured by collapsed stone and the true surviving wall height may be up to 1.8m at W. No trace of an original entrance is visible; however, its enclosing elements are overgrown with dense hazel scrub from W–E. The interior is relatively clear of overgrowth and apparently featureless.
It is within an extensive and likely multiperiod field system (CL006-042001-) and an enclosure (CL006-042004-) lies c. 80m to the NNW.
