Immediately N of a roadway on the W line of the walled garden (CL003-029001-) marking the precincts of Corcomroe Abbey (CL003-029002-). A gatehouse, the upper parts of which collapsed soon after 1839 (Stalley 1987, 176). Two parallel mortared stone walls (Wth 0.7m; H 4m; L 9.2m) oriented E-W, 5m apart. There is a plain flat-headed doorway (Wth 1m) at the W end of the N wall. On the enclosure wall immediately to the N and S are two narrow slit windows. According to Stalley (ibid.) the medieval gatehouse was manned by a porter whose attitude to visitors was not necessarily as warm-hearted as it should have been.
