Twenty-five metres of earth stand six metres high in County Meath, marking a late Iron Age burial rather than a vague ancient shadow. P. D. Sweetman uncovered that truth in 1979, cutting through centuries of assumption to reveal the mound's true purpose. The barrow still holds its shape under a preservation order, waiting for humans to imagine the dead it swallowed and the living who built it.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 10 July 2007 Circular mound (diam. 25m., H 6m) partially excavated and restored in 1979 by P. D. Sweetman (RMAHS 1982-3, 58-68) who demonstrated that it was a burial mound of the late Iron Age. This monument is subject to a preservation order made under the National Monuments Acts 1930 to 2014 (PO no. 11/1977).
