Freestanding square-plan tapering obelisk, erected 1951, of ashlar Wicklow granite. Faces east, with inlaid gold cross towards base and surmounted by gilt-bronze flaming torch with round-plan base inclined up towards centre, adorned with bronze wreaths framing medallions of Arthur Griffith, Michael Collins and Kevin O'Higgins. Located on Leinster Lawn overlooking Merrion Square. Replaces earlier monument of 1923.
