What is recorded here

Sections of town wall, built in 1627 by order of King James I and altered c.1830. Jambs of a town gate survive in the northern section. Parts of town wall to the west, south and eastern perimeters of the town. Walls comprise sandstone rubble with lime mortar. The northern gate has been repaired in the past.
