Georgestown House — FARRANALAHESERY

Detached three-bay two-storey over part-raised basement house, c.1800, retaining early fenestration. Extended, c.1925, comprising three-bay single-storey over part-raised basement lateral wing to right (east). Part reroofed, c.2000. Hipped slate roof to main block with section of replacement artificial slate, c.2000, pitched slate roof to wing, clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks, and profiled cast-iron rainwater goods on moulded cut-granite eaves to main block. Unpainted rendered, ruled and lined walls with cut-granite frieze to main block having moulded cornice to eaves. Square-headed window openings to main block with cut-granite sills, cut-granite surrounds having segmental pediments to ground floor with dentilated detailing, and 6/6 timber sash windows. Round-headed door opening approached by flight of ten cut-limestone steps having panelled flanking piers, cut-granite Doric doorcase (salvaged from earlier house, c.1775, and applied, c.1975) supporting open-bed pediment, replacement timber panelled accordion doors, c.1995, and decorative fanlight. Square-headed window openings to wing (in bipartite arrangement to centre) with cut-stone sills, rendered surrounds, and 6/6 timber sash windows. Interior with timber panelled shutters to window openings. Set back from road in own grounds with gravel forecourt, and landscaped grounds to site. (ii) Detached eight-bay single-storey stable building with dormer attic, c.1800, to north-east. Reroofed, c.1925, possibly with dormer attic added. Renovated, c.2000. Pitched roof (gabled to dormer attic window) with replacement artificial slate, c.1925, clay ridge tiles, square rooflight, c.1925, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Unpainted replacement cement rendered walls, c.2000. Series of round-headed door openings with tongue-and-groove timber panelled half-doors having fanlights. Round-headed window opening with no sill, 3/3 timber sash window, and fanlight. Square-headed window opening to dormer attic with timber casement window. (iii) Gateway, c.1800, to east comprising pair of unpainted rendered panelled piers having stringcourses, dentilated moulded capping, replacement iron double gates, c.2000, and unpainted rendered panelled flanking walls having rendered coping.
