The Old Rectory — Tower Hill

Detached five-bay two-storey rectory, c.1850, possibly over basement originally on a symmetrical plan with flat-roofed prostyle diastyle Doric portico to centre, two-bay two-storey side elevations, and single-bay two-storey central return to west. Extensively renovated and extended, c.2000, comprising three-bay two-storey return to west. Now in private residential use. Hipped roof (pitched to original portion of return) with replacement artificial slate, c.2000, clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks, and replacement uPVC rainwater goods, c.2000, on overhanging eaves. Hipped artificial sate roof to additional range to return with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stack, and uPVC rainwater goods on overhanging eaves. Flat roof to portico not visible behind cornice parapet. Painted roughcast walls (possibly replacement, c.2000). Square-headed window openings with stone sills (concrete sills to additional range to return), rendered surrounds, replacement 6/6 timber sash windows, c.2000, to original block, and timber casement windows to additional range to return. Round-headed door opening under prostyle diastyle Doric portico (having fluted columns on pedestal supporting frieze and moulded cornice) with replacement timber panelled double doors, c.2000, and spoked fanlight. Set back from road in own grounds with gravel forecourt, and landscaped grounds to site.(ii) Gateway, c.1850, to east comprising pair of unpainted roughcast piers with rendered capping, wrought iron double gates having finials, unpainted roughcast curved flanking walls leading to unpainted roughcast outer piers, and sections of random rubble stone boundary walls to perimeter of site.
