Templevalley House — TEMPLEVALLY

Farmyard complex, built c. 1780, comprising three ranges of two-storey outbuildings to north, west and south sides of courtyard, with two-storey dwelling house and yard entrance forming east side. South range partly three-storey, due to fall in ground. Outbuilding ranges all have pitched slate roofs and partly roughcast rendered rubble sandstone walls. Multiple-bay west range is stable block, higher than other ranges, has bellcotes to each gable, northern having round-headed bell opening with bell and southern being false, with round-headed recess, and presents seven bays to yard frontage, with square-headed openings, having timber louvers and timber battened pitching door to first floor and timber battened half-doors to ground floor, all with roughly dressed stone voussoirs. Nine-bay north and south ranges have square-headed window openings and one pitching door each to upper floors with timber lintels and louvered fittings, and segmental-arched doorways and vehicular entrances to ground floors, with roughly dressed stone voussoirs and timber battened doors. Some round-arched doorways to north range, and rendered chimneystack to south range. Dwelling is three-bay, built c. 1900, incorporating easternmost bay and ground floor of next bay of north outbuilding range, and recent flat-roofed extension to angle, with pitched slate roof, brick chimneystacks, roughcast rendered walls, square-headed replacement uPVC windows with render sills and round-headed timber panelled double-leaf door with fanlight, approached by limestone steps, with lawn to front, terrace to front of house being accessed by flight of limestone steps.
