The Grange — KILMACOW

Detached three-bay two-storey over half-basement former glebe house, built 1866, facing north, with single-storey over basement canted bay window to west elevation. Now in use as private house and guest house. Hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and overhanging eaves. Roughcast rendered walls, with render continuous sill course to first floor, and with rendered plinth to full height of basement. Square-headed window openings having two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows, with render sills to ground floor. Elliptical-headed door opening with timber surround comprising chamfered timber posts flanking carved timber panelled double-leaf door and sidelights with panelled risers, and having carved dog-tooth course above, with paned fanlight, and approached by flight of limestone steps over area to front of basement with limestone plinths and cast-iron railings. Four-bay single-storey outbuilding to east having single-pitched corrugated-iron and slate roofs, painted rubble sandstone walls, and square-headed door openings. Six-bay two-storey outbuilding to east having half-hipped slate roof with brick chimneystack, painted rendered walls, square-headed openings, windows having some fixed timber fittings and some six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows, and timber battened doors.
