Saint Mary's Church — LISGRIFFIN

Freestanding single-cell gable-fronted Roman Catholic church, dated 1897, with six-bay nave elevations, single-bay single-storey sacristy to north-west, and having altar to north end. Pitched slate roof with terracotta ridge tiles, decorative corner brackets and square-profile cast-iron rainwater goods. Pointed arch openwork bellcote to entrance gable. Roughcast rendered walls with render quoins, smooth rendered plinth course, sill course and impost course, having decorative cast-iron vents to plinth course. Pointed arch window openings having render hood-mouldings, render surrounds and render sills with leaded stained-glass windows, triple-light window to north elevation, and paired window openings over entrance doorway with render block-and-start surrounds. Pointed arch door opening having chamfered render surround, decorative render hood-moulding, timber battened door with cast-iron strap hinges, approached by two limestone steps. Interior has tiled entrance lobby, exposed timber scissors truss roof, oil-painted stations of the Cross with timber surrounds, marble altar and altar rail, and carved timber confessionals flanking entrance. Rendered boundary plinth walls with ornate cast-iron railings terminating in square-plan piers with pointed caps having double-leaf wrought-iron gates. Some priests' graves to site, and memorial cross along road opposite to church.
