Cregane House — CREGGANNACOURTY

Detached three-bay two-storey over basement house, built c. 1800, with three-bay side and rear elevations. Formal courtyard of outbuildings to rear (west). Rear elevation shows evidence of multi-period building. U-plan hipped slate roof, with gables to rear, having limestone ashlar chimneystacks with terracotta chimney pots, projecting eaves, and open-be pediment detail to gables. Smooth rendered walls having some coursed rubble limestone exposed. Square-headed window openings having tooled limestone sills, with six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows to ground and first floors of front elevation, basement windows having one tripartite six-over-six to south elevation, and some replacement timber and uPVC windows elsewhere. Round-headed window to centre of rear elevation, set into square-headed opening and having six-over-six pane timber sliding sash window with fanlight. Elliptical-headed door opening approached by six diminishing cut limestone steps. Timber panelled door with timber surround and spoked fanlight, having tooled limestone voussoirs and flanked by tooled limestone panelled pilasters. Area around basement has coursed rubble and rendered retaining walls, with flat-arch door opening to south side with tooled limestone voussoirs, square-plan piers to west side with rounded caps and having wrought-iron pedestrian gate and limestone steps with rounded coping stones to parapets. U-plan formal courtyard of outbuildings to rear, all single-storey with lofts and having rubble limestone walls with square-headed window and door openings, some with single-block limestone lintels carved to resemble voussoirs, limestone sills, timber fittings, including remains of some timber sliding sash windows, some timber battened doors, elliptical and segmental arch carriage entrances, and pitched and hipped slate roofs with ashlar limestone chimneystacks. Twelve-bay range to west. Eight-bay range to north with elliptical occulus window to loft floor over west carriage arch and square-headed window openings over other arches. Eight-bay range to east has carved date to northern carriage arch, with elliptical oculus window over. Coursed rubble boundary walls to south of yard terminating in square-plan tooled limestone piers with flat caps. Detached three-bay single-storey lodge to east, built. 1840, having two-bay lean-to extension to rear. Now disused. Hipped slate roof having clay ridge tiles, limestone ashlar chimneystack, and projecting eaves, coursed limestone rubble walls with some render, and square-headed window and door openings with tooled stone voussoirs, limestone sills and having timber louvers to windows and paned overlight to door. Coursed limestone rubble walls to yard area to rear. Coursed snecked limestone ashlar angled entrance walls terminating in square-plan piers, with wrought-iron pedestrian gate to south of gateless vehicular entrance.
