Castle Wrixon — CASTLEWRIXON SOUTH

Detached double-pile five-bay two-storey house, built c. 1780. Comprising main block with flat-roof porch to front, and three-bay rear elevation, two-storey to centre bay and three-storey to north bay, and having three-bay single-storey extension to rear. Pitched slate roof to front block with overhanging eaves and rendered end chimneystacks, three hipped slate roofs to rear block with rendered chimneystacks, and pitched slate roof to extension. Painted rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with limestone sills and mainly replacement uPVC windows, north gable having six-over-six pane timber sliding sash window and middle bay of rear elevation having fixed timber stained-glass margined four-pane window. Square-headed tripartite opening to porch having one-over-one pane fixed timber stained-glass lights and limestone sill. Square-headed door opening to porch having half-glazed timber panelled double-leaf door. Single-storey outbuilding to north having pitched corrugated-iron roof, painted roughcast rendered walls and square-headed window and door openings. Three-bay two-storey L-plan outbuilding to east with three-bay single-storey extension to north elevation, having hipped slate roof, painted rubble stone walls, and square-headed fixed windows and metal doors. Sandstone cobbles to yard. Square-profile cut limestone piers with concrete caps and ornate double-leaf, spear-headed cast-iron gates and painted rendered walls with render copings and plinth courses.
