Freestanding gateway, dated 1849, built as entrance to university. Pointed arch vehicular entrance with lower pedestrian to west, set within crennellated squared limestone wall with carved date stone and benchmark to south. Ashlar voussoirs to arches with chamfered edges. Cast-iron gates to both entrances. Forming southern entrance to university campus.
