Stork's Nest — Compass Hill

Detached three-bay three-storey house, built c.1780, with lean-to additions to side (south) and rear (west). Pitched slate roof with red brick chimneystacks, rendered copings to gables, timber cladding to eaves supported by carved timber corbel style through-beams and cast-iron rainwater goods. Slate hanging to first and second floors of front elevation over rendered ground floor walls with concrete plinth. Roughcast rendered walls to sides (north, south) and rear (west). Exposed rubble stone to side (east) elevation of southern lean-to with tooled limestone commemorative plaque (dated 1760). Cast-iron vents to front (east) elevation, cast-iron brace-plates to gables and numerous roughcast rendered projections to side (north) elevation including disused chimney flue and remains of earlier structure. Square-headed diminishing window openings with limestone sills, having six-over-six and six-over-three pane timber sliding sash windows to front and rear elevations, eight-over-eight pane timber sliding sash windows to ground floor of rear elevation, four-over-four and six-over-three pane timber sliding sash windows to side (south) elevation. Square-headed window openings to southern lean-to having raised render reveals and sills with bipartite timber casement windows. Round-headed door opening within replacement timber doorcase having decorated panelled timber door, spoked fanlight and rough stone stepped approach. Located within own grounds slightly removed from street within exposed rubble stone enclosing wall. Well with vaulted red brick roof, limestone descending steps and flagged and cobbled stoned areas to south of building.
