Statue of Maid of Erin, erected 1881, comprising robed female figure, set on drum surmounting Doric column with plinth. Intertwined shamrocks around drum. Erected in memory of the Manchester Martyrs. Similar in design to O'Connell Monument in O'Connell Square. Relocated to present site in 1966. Set on red and grey paved roundabout at junction of four roads.
