Rathdowney House — RATHDOWNEY (Forth By., Rosslare ED)

Detached three-bay two-storey farmhouse with dormer attic, extant 1867, on an L-shaped plan centred on single-bay single-storey flat-roofed projecting glazed porch to ground floor on an engaged half-octagonal plan; single-bay (north) or two-bay (south) two-storey side elevations. Occupied, 1911. Renovated, ----. Hipped slate roof on an L-shaped plan including gablets to window openings to dormer attic with clay ridge tiles, paired rendered central chimney stacks having chamfered stringcourses below capping supporting terracotta tapered pots, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered slate flagged retaining cast-iron downpipes. Part creeper- or ivy-covered roughcast walls. Segmental-headed central door opening into farmhouse, timber doorcase with panelled pilasters supporting shallow cornice, and concealed dressings having concave or splayed reveals framing timber panelled door having fanlight. Square-headed window openings with cut-granite sills, and concealed dressings framing eight-over-eight timber sash windows. Interior including (ground floor): central hall retaining carved timber surrounds to door openings framing timber panelled doors, and moulded plasterwork cornice to ceiling centred on plasterwork ceiling rose; and carved timber surrounds to door openings to remainder framing timber panelled doors with timber panelled shutters to window openings. Set in landscaped grounds with piers to perimeter having creeper- or ivy-covered capping supporting spear head-detailed wrought iron "farm gate".
