Kellsborough House

Detached three-bay two-storey house, c.1800, with three-bay two-storey recessed lower wing to left. Renovated, c.1925, with salvaged (single-storey) prostyle tetrastyle Doric portico added to ground floor. Part reroofed, c.1950. Hipped roof (pitched slate roof to wing) with replacement artificial slate, c.1950, clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks, rendered coping to gables, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves. Flat roof to portico. Unpainted roughcast walls over random rubble stone construction with rendered quoins to corners. Square-headed window openings (some in bipartite arrangement with timber panelled pilaster mullions) with cut-limestone sills, and one-over-one timber sash windows having six-over-six timber sash windows to wing. Square-headed door opening under prostyle tetrastyle Doric portico (with bas-relief fluted cut-limestone columns without responsive pilasters supporting frieze, and dentilated moulded cornice supporting round-headed panelled finial piers possibly originally featuring balustrade or railings) with cut-limestone surround, and timber panelled door having overlight incorporating fanlight. Interior with timber panelled shutters to window openings. Set back from road in own grounds. (ii) Detached four-bay single-storey outbuilding, c.1800, perpendicular to north-west with square-headed carriageway. Pitched slate roof with terracotta ridge tiles, and no rainwater goods surviving on rendered red brick eaves. Remains of unpainted roughcast walls over random rubble stone construction. Square-headed window openings with lintels (now blocked-up with concrete block infill). Square-headed carriageway with lintel, and tongue-and-groove timber panelled double doors. (iii) Detached seven-bay two-storey outbuilding, c.1800, to south about a courtyard with five-bay single-storey mono-pitched projecting wing to left, and six-bay single-storey lean-to projecting wing to right having series of six square-headed openings forming arcade. Pitched slate roof (mono-pitched to wings) with clay ridge tiles, and iron rainwater goods on rendered red brick eaves. Unpainted rendered walls over random rubble limestone construction. Square-headed window openings with no sills, concealed lintels, and timber fittings. Square-headed door openings with timber lintels, and tongue-and-groove timber panelled doors. Series of square-headed openings to wing to right forming open arcade with lintels on cast-iron pillars.
