What is recorded here

The placename 'Nevitt' has been in use since the 14th century suggesting antiquity. It may have derived from Neimhead or in Old Irish Nemed meaning a sanctuary site (Lohan 2006, 4). More precise placename evidence in the centre of this townland i. e. 'Chapel bank' and 'church Park' supports this interpretation. Geophysical analysis (05R062) of this area identified portion of a possible multi-phase large multi-ditched enclosure with radials and external ancillary activity.
