Murrooghkilly hilltop bristles with turf stands, sharp-edged rectangles of bare earth where the grass has been cut back and refused to return. They cluster near a cairn like abandoned markers, perhaps tomb-like in the way they break the green surface, perhaps merely the ghost of human habit. The land remembers being taken and given back, and the stands remain visible because the soil itself resists forgetting.

Listed as 'Megalithic structure, possible' in the RMP (1996). Spellissy (1987, 102) refers to a 'slabbed tomb-like structure' close to a cairn (CL002-001-). There are several turf stands quite close to that cairn, those nearest being 12m N at ITM 516543, 710596 and 10m W at ITM 516524, 710585 with many more scattered across the hilltop.
