What is recorded here

Graveyard located to the S and E of the 19th century C of I church which was built on the site of the medieval parish church (WM019-089016-) located at the E end of Church Lane in the historic town of Mullingar (WM019-089----). The River Brosna is located 65m to the E. This church is first referred to in a charter of c. 1192-1202 when it was granted to the Augustinian Priory of Llanthony Prima in Wales by Simon de Rochford, Bishop of Meath. This grant was confirmed and the dedication to All Saints specified by William le Petit in a grant of c. 1202-10. In 1381 the cemetery of the medieval church is described as lying between the church and the River Brosna (Bradley et. al. 1985, 117). This reference places the graveyard in the area to the E of the present All Saints C of I church. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien & R. Barrett Date of upload: 26 June 2014
