In an area of State forestry. Indicated on the 1838 and 1933 editions of the OS 6-inch map as an irregular enclosed tree copse (c. 60m NW-SE; c. 45m NE-SW) in an area that was liable to flooding. When inspected in 1983 it was overgrown and enclosed by strong field walls.
