Mound in Lissooleen

Mound

Why this matters

A Neolithic passage tomb; partially destroyed by modern development. Its significance lies in its association with early megalithic funerary practices in the region.

What is recorded here

'The standing stone (KE030- 028----) marks the north-western extent of a low earthen sub-circular mound which measures 28.0m E-W by 14.5m N-S. The southern side of the site has been cut by the construction of the ringfort (KE030-029----). At its highest the mound attains a maximum height of 1.0m. This site is grass covered and slopes sharply to the surrounding ground level at north.' Compiled by Michael Connolly for the Archaeological Survey of Ireland as part of a survey of the Lee Valley area in 1996-97. Date of upload: 4 May 2012
