Mound in Lackabaun

Mound

Why this matters

A local ancient tomb; wider significance not recorded.

What is recorded here

Located in a very marshy field, approximately 80m to the NE of KE030-095---. Currently under a heavy growth of rushes and very wet underfoot, in an area of generally marshy land. The surrounding land rises immediately to the N, so the dominant aspect from this site is towards the S. The field also slopes gently from W, to lower ground at E. This field does not appear to be used for any purpose at the moment, but seems to have been used for rough grazing, due to the presence of electric fences. This is a grass-covered mound, cut on its northern side by a SW-NE running earthen field boundary. The surviving portion of the mound measures 17m NE-SW by 7m NW-SE. The top of the mound is 1.2m above surrounding ground level. No trace of a trough was noted. The remains of a denuded N-S field boundary area located immediately to the E of this site.
