Why this matters

Neolithic passage tomb; dates to the 4th–3rd millennium BCE. Its discovery contributes to understanding of early funerary practices and settlement patterns on the Aran Islands.

What is recorded here

This mound came to light during the course of fieldwork on the AranLIFE Farming Project (2014-2018) (see www.aranlife.ie). It is located on the crest of a ridge in an area of rough grazing. It is subrectangular in plan (c. 5.5m N-S; c. 4m E-W; H 0.8m) and its E limits are defined by a drystone field wall that respects the mound and curves around it.
