What is recorded here
Brodie Castle Policies holds a small two-storey icehouse built beside the northwest garden wall, where a single gable window still faces the grounds. It may have stored summer fruit and cream through winter, serving the castle kitchen in seasons when fresh food vanished. The adjacent lean-to vinery has disappeared, leaving only the main structure to mark the edge of that lost garden.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Brodie Castle Policies as Icehouse (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Brodie Castle, located in Moray, Scotland, was primarily built and held by the Brodie family, a prominent Scottish clan, with significant construction occurring in the 16th and 17th centuries. The castle and its policies, including the icehouse, are important as they reflect the domestic and economic practices of a powerful Highland family during the late medieval and early modern periods.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
