Edinglassie Castle stood in Mortlach until Highland clans burning it during their march from Strathspey to Strathbogie erased most of its shape. Whether that happened in 1688 or 1690, the flame did the same work: it turned a lived house into a gap the land later filled with grass and forgetting. A nearby dovecot may still belong to it, keeping eggs of memory warm long after the chambers ceased to hold people.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Edinglassie Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Edinglassie Castle was built in the 16th century by the Keith family, a prominent noble family in the region. It is remembered as a well-preserved example of a Scottish tower house and is associated with historical events during the Wars of Scottish Independence.
