Earnside Castle belonged to the Cumyns of Altur around 1450, but no wall or chamber remains for them to haunt. Two cottages now sit where the castle stood, and a faint rectangular shadow still shows in the crops above them. The Cumyns built, left, and disappeared; the land kept the shape of their choice while forgetting their name.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Earnside Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Earnside Castle was built in the 13th century by the de Quincy family, who were influential in the region during the medieval period. It is remembered for its strategic position near the River Earn and its role in the feudal landscape of medieval Scotland.
