Mound in Monaster South

Mound

What is recorded here

Monaster South mound vanished from wet Limerick pasture after 1920, despite Westropp describing a small rounded shape south of Abbeyville House. Water, ploughs or time may have swallowed it, but the chance of finding a buried chamber still tingles.
In wet pasture S of Abbey Ville House. Described in 1920 as follows; 'In a low-lying and often flooded reach, south of Abbeyville House, I noticed, a small rounded mound’ (Westropp 1920, 375). The precise location of this mound has not been identified. No mound visible to S of Abbey Ville House on Google Earth orthoimages. Compiled by: Martin Fitzpatrick Date of upload: 2 April 2021
