What is recorded here

Indicated is a circular earthen ringfort on raised pasture beside the Camoge River, standing 290m east of Monasteranenagh abbey and 400m north of Abbey Ville House. It may be an old rath later dressed into a landscape feature for Abbey Ville, its bank still visible through trees in modern imagery. The fort predates the house, yet the house helped preserve its shape by making people notice the circle instead of forgetting it.

On a slightly raised area in pasture, 290m E of the 12th century Cistercian abbey of Monasteranenagh (LI031-050004-) and 200m W of the Camoge River. Abbey Ville House and walled garden 400m to SW. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map as a tree-covered polygonal-shaped earthwork intersected at S by a field boundary running E-W. Not depicted as an antiquity on this OSi map but as a tree-covered plantation possibly associated with landscaping works of Abbey Ville. The OSi 25-inch map shows a roughly circular-shaped area (dims. c. 28m NE-SW, 22m NW-SE) enclosed by a field boundary with external fosse. Monument is visible as a circular-shaped area enclosed by a tree covered bank on OSi orthophotos 2005-2012 and on Google Earth orthoimage taken 14/02/2020.
