Knockaneroe held a rectangular moated enclosure roughly fifty metres long until ploughing erased it around 1975. The west bank and southern ditch resisted long enough to mark the shape on a 1943 survey and a 1973 aerial photograph. Local people called it a square fort, suggesting they remembered more than they preserved.

In pasture. Depicted only on 1943 OS 6-inch map; shown as rectangular enclosure (c. 50m E-W; c. 30m N-S) formed by hachured bank to W, hachured fosse to S and by broken line to N and E. Levelled; slightly raised rectangular area discernible. According to local information "square fort" levelled c. 1975. Clearly visible as rectangular enclosure on aerial photograph (GSIAP, W52:1973).
