Moated site

What is recorded here

Situated on the gentle S-facing slope of a natural rise in pasture. The site is depicted as a rectangular enclosure on the 1952-3 OS 6-inch map. Only the N side survives incorporated into a low field bank and hedgerow. The outline of the fosse surrounding this rectangular site (dims. 41m N-S; c.34m E-W) is visible as differential grass growth (Wth 3.4m). The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
