What is recorded here

The motte and bailey (LF014-050----) is probably the location of the inauguration place of the O’Farralls (Buí), rulers of S Annaly (an area corresponding to the S and W of the modern county Longford) following the division of the O’Farrall sept and lands c. 1516 (FitzPatrick 2004, 209). The possible inauguration mound is known locally as 'Móta Uí Fhearghail' or the 'Moat of Farrell'. It may have been incorporated by the Anglo-Normans into the motte and bailey (ibid. 93 4). A possible stone castle (LF014-050002-) of 16th century date was later constructed on the summit of the motte. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 17 April 2012
