Castlethorpe Castle is a scheduled monument, a motte and bailey with possible ringwork earthworks 200m south-east of Castlethorpe Lodge in the City of Milton Keynes, England. The earthworks still mark the place even though the castle itself has vanished. Anyone standing near Castlethorpe Lodge can picture the mound, the ditch and the hidden shape of a lost defensive site. The list protects the remains, but it does not promise entry or explain every line of the earthworks.
The National Heritage List for England records Castlethorpe Castle: a motte and bailey, possible ringwork and associated earthworks 200m south-east of Castlethorpe Lodge as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Built in the 12th century, likely by a Norman lord, Castlethorpe Castle is remembered as an example of early medieval military architecture in England, reflecting the strategic importance of the area following the Norman Conquest.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
