What is recorded here
Enclosure in Milltown is a vanished circular boundary in County Clare, Ireland, reduced to invisible ground beneath pasture. It sat slightly elevated above steep and gentle slopes, near megalithic structures and a standing stone, while later field lines cut through its shape. People may have walked that hidden circle for centuries before boundaries and forgetting buried it.
On a slightly elevated area overlooking a short, steep slope to SE and a gentle slope to SW, in pasture with reasonable views. There are a lot of surface undulations and rock outcrop exposed across this field. Depicted on the 1840 edition OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. 40m) truncated by a field boundary (aligned c. E-W) across the N sector. Depicted as a penannular enclosure on the 25-inch OS map, where it is truncated by a field boundary (aligned NW-SE) across the NE-sector and is abutting a field boundary to SW. Depicted on the 1921 edition of the OS 6-inch map truncated by field boundaries (aligned NW-SE) across NE and SW-sectors. Not visible at ground level. An enclosure (CL035-013001-), a megalithic structure (CL035-013002-) and a standing stone (CL035-013003-) are c. 68m to WSW and a megalithic tomb (CL035-015----) is c. 65m to SW.
