What is recorded here
This navigation beacon is on the N side of Bofin Harbour, almost directly opposite ‘Cromwell’s Fort’ (GA009D023----), which is on the S side. There are panoramic views from the ENE to WNW. The beacon (D c. 3.4m) is constructed of roughly coursed masonry which is rendered and white-washed. A base-batter (Wth 0.32m) is evident to a height of 0.4m above the ground level. The tower tapers slightly towards the cornice which projects beyond the eaves. Above the cornice, it is capped by two stepped bands of ashlar masonry. A niche in the SW face contains a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A small undated inscribed stone placed against the base of the wall, roughly at west, commemorates Hugh O’Donhel. The beacon is one of three (see also GA009D018---- and GA009D043----) which aided navigation of the bay.
