Midden in An Loch

Midden

What is recorded here

A fairly sparse shell midden exposed in section in the cliff-face on the E side of Dingle Harbour. It contains shells of cockles, saddle oysters and possibly oysters; some animal bones are also visible. (information: A. McCarthy) The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 20. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
