Belvoir Castle is a grade I listed mock castle in Leicestershire, rebuilt between 1801 and 1832 after earlier structures stood on the same high ground since 1067. It remains the private seat of David Manners, 11th Duke of Rutland, whose male line inherited it in 1508, and it overlooks the Vale of Belvoir from the northern edge of the county. The name means beautiful view in Norman French, yet local people have long called it Beaver Castle because the old words resisted their tongues.
