Cillín

Cillín is a separate Irish burial ground for children and outcast people excluded from consecrated church graveyards. In County Mayo, 224 cillíní were recorded as of 2021, often at boundaries, shores or old sacred places. Small stones may still outline a child's shape, holding a loss the main cemetery would not acknowledge.
